What is LAYERS of Morocco?

LAYERS of Morocco is a Moroccan house dedicated to the rebirth of artisanal weaving. Each rug is handcrafted by the women of Sidi Chitaa cooperative. Nestled in the Atlas Mountains, more precisely in Aït Bouguemez Valley, this beautiful region is internationally known as the "Happy Valley". Our mission is to preserve Amazigh weaving traditions while connecting them with contemporary design and fair trade.

Why the name “LAYERS”?

The word LAYERS evokes both the geological layers of the Atlas Mountains and the woven layers of wool in every rug. It also symbolizes the cultural and emotional layers that form Morocco’s rich culture and heritage.

Are the rugs really handmade?

Yes — every piece is entirely handmade. Each rug requires weeks of work and carries the unique imprint of its weaver. No machines, no shortcuts — only skill, patience, and natural materials.

SECTION 2 — Our Rugs and Collections

Which collections do you offer?

Our rugs are organized into four collections:

  • Asulay – Les Chemins du Soleil (Azilal Handknotted / traditional)
  • Les Chemins de Aït Bouguemaz (Modern Azilal Handknotted / organic shapes)
  • Adrar – Les Chemins des Montagnes (Beni Ouarain Handknotted / neutral textures)
  • Imɣran – Les Chemins du Vent (Henbel / flat weave).

Each reflects a story, a landscape and Amazigh symbols, rooted in the Moroccan Atlas.

What materials do you use?

We use 100 % natural Moroccan wool, sourced in the High Atlas and hand-spun by local artisans in Marrakech wool Market. Our dyes are non-toxic and free from azo colorants. Natural shades and soft textures are part of our slow-design approach.

Can I customize a rug?

Yes — you can order any model in our standard sizes (300 × 200, 230 × 160, 300 × 100, 180 × 120 cm). For bespoke colors or motifs, contact us – we’ll coordinate directly with the cooperative. Customized dimensions are possible as well.

Do the rugs come with a certificate?

Each rug includes an authenticity certificate signed by the weaver and a QR code to share your feedback. It’s your personal link to the women who woven it

How should I care for my rug?

Vacuum gently without a rotating brush. Air it occasionally in the shade. Avoid washing with large amounts of water – for deep cleaning, consult a specialist in natural-wool rugs. Detailed care instructions are included in the package.

📦 SECTION 3 — Orders and Pre-orders

What’s the difference between “In Stock” and “Pre-order”?

  • In Stock: already woven, ready to ship.
  • Pre-order: made-to-order in our cooperative within 6–8 weeks, depending on design complexity and size of the Rug.

Can I cancel a pre-order?

Yes, within 24 hours of purchase. After that, production begins and cancellations are no longer possible.

How do I track my order?

Once your rug is shipped, you’ll receive an email with a tracking link (DHL or Aramex). You can also log in to your customer account on our website to check the status.

🌍 SECTION 4 — Delivery and Returns

Do you ship internationally?

Yes — we deliver worldwide: Europe, North America, Australia, the UAE, Japan, and beyond.

Are taxes and duties included?

What are the delivery times?

  • Morocco → 3 to 5 business days
  • International → 6 to 14 business days

Do you accept returns?

Yes, within 14 days of receipt for non-custom rugs. Return costs are at the customer’s expense. Contact us at contact@layersofmorocco.com with your order number to initiate a return.

Which payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), PayPal, and bank transfers on request.

Are my payments secure?

Yes – all transactions are encrypted via Shopify Payments and PayPal Business. We never store your banking data.

Can I pay in installments?

How can I contact you?

When are you available?

Our team is based in Morocco and available Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. (GMT + 1).

SECTION 7 — Unboxing Experience

What will I find inside my package?

  • Your rug carefully is wrapped in a protective plastic coated jute. We want to be sure that your rug will arrive safe and sound beautifully wrapped. Please note that you can reuse this packaging for any other DIY project of your own, so please do not throw it away, for the planet sake.
  • A care guide & mini booklet “My LAYERS rug at home”
  • An authenticity certificate including poetic thank-you card with a QR code to share your feedback.

Is shipping ever free?

The Shipping fees are included in the price. However, during some offer periods, we can offer you the shipping fees.
